Who We Are
Unidas por Salud is a collaborative of academics, students, and community members invested in health equity and empowerment in rural communities.
We are committed to empowering communities to take control of their own health and well-being through education, resources, and support.
Established by Women, for Community Wellness
Unidas por Salud was established by women and is led by women. Our work is driven by community and student needs. We value shared leadership, decision making, and resource allocation.
Our Mission
Unidas por Salud aims to build the capacity of premedical, pre-health, and medical students and promotoras to collaborate with healthcare systems and community partners to serve the underserved Latinx and Indigenous Mexican communities in the rural desert region of the Inland Southern California.
Conchita Servicios de la Comunidad
Our community investigator, Maria “Conchita” Pozar, founded Conchita Servicios de la Comunidad, which oversees our team of promotoras. Conchita Servicios de la Comunidad is women and minority-owned. This organization builds the capacity of Latinx and Indigenous Mexican women to engage in research, healthcare services, and public health outreach. Their mission is to empower indigenous and minority women to develop skills and the capacity to address the health needs of underserved and vulnerable immigrant communities through research, education, and service.
